Our Thoughts on James Franco

So, the internets have announced that James Franco is going to guest star on General Hospital, possibly for a months-long arc. Let me repeat, James Franco- star of huge movies like Spiderman and Milk, an actor who has major box office draw, is taking time out of his schedule to work on a soap opera. For those of you who aren’t familiar with what it’s like to film a soap opera, it’s grueling. Like 15 hour days, no time to do anything else, and the number of people who tune in are in the thousands. Traceface and I react to this news after the jump.

Someone explain this to me.

Gawker just put up a post about how the NYPD has to take over Robert Pattinson’s security detail because his bodyguards are too overwhelmed by crazed fans. If you follow any NYC blogs, those articles have been aplenty lately. For those of us old enough to remember (re: everyone), this very much mirrors the Leonardo DiCaprio/Titanic explosion of ’07. So, my question, teenage girls of the new millennium, how did we go from this:

This is Why Britney Is The Way She Is

Several gossip roundups on various blogs are sharply reporting big news about Britney this morning- she’s back to her junk food binges! Some of them are linked to this article. To sum up, the first 3/4ths of the article are dedicated to the fact that Britney has been slacking on her diet and is eating twinkies!! Central quote? “She’s been following a strict diet plan but it’s gradually slid back into Britney’s old ways of junk food binges.”

Only as an afterthought is it mentioned that Britney has been receiving death threats and is so paranoid that her kids will be kidnapped that she wakes up screaming in the middle of the night.

Obviously, less important this:

“Britney has got it into her head that because she is performing every night she can let herself go during the day.”

And we wonder why she had a nervous breakdown or five.

Jimmy Fallon Not Getting Any Better

No commentary. Just watch.

American Idol?

We consider ourselves pretty culturally-savvy. We follow trends and keep up with what’s popular and what’s not. Because of this, we have a pretty good understanding of why certain things are popular, certain things are considered good or bad, etc. 

But there is one thing we just do not understand: American Idol.

It’s the highest rated show on TV, by millions and millions of viewers. In order to understand this, we shall do what we do best. Watch it.

Jimmy Fallon’s reviews for his first show last night were pretty atrocious.

Tracy recorded it and promised to sit through it for your sake. I will not be. Simply reading about the fact that Jimmy Fallon impersonated “Robert De Niro while the actor sat next to him, and then asked De Niro for approval: “That was pretty good, right?”, makes me want to bang my head on the table.

Adam Pascal, Please, Just Stop….

When I was 15 I had a huge crush on Adam Pascal. This was during my Renthead phase, when I saw the show 3 times and listened to the soundtrack on repeat. Can you blame me? He is super, super dreamy. My crush lasted through his time in Aida, his performance in School of Rock.

And then he started performing in Rent, again. Then he did the Rent movie. Then he went back to Broadway’s Rent. Then did a Rent benefit concert. Then did Rent at NJPAC in Newark. And now, this .

When All Hope Seems Lost

Dedicating so much time to the arts scene in NYC does have a pretty significant downside. A lot of it is terrible. Like, really, really bad. The ugly side of such a vibrant performance city can rear its head through a bad play, an overly political indie movie, a wannabe hipster band. And recently, I’ve had to endure the most depressing of all. The Scene Night.
